Course Overview- ACLS

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course offers the skills and training needed to administer care for an adult cardiac arrest. Built on the foundation of basic life support (BLS) skills, ACLS focuses on the next level   of healthcare provider training.

ACLS provider course is designed with a focus on three crucial aspects – Importance of high-quality CPR to patient survival, integration of basic life support with ACLS interventions and effective teamwork during resuscitation.

Students will gain in-depth knowledge of the following:

  • High-quality Basic Life Support
  • Systematic Approach
  • Defibrillation
  • Intravenous (IV)/intraosseous (IO) access (information only)
  • Use of medication
  • Cardioversion
  • Transcutaneous pacing
  • Team dynamics

Students will practice the application in a simulated environment through role play.

Intended Audience

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Course is designed for healthcare professionals who manage cardiovascular emergencies.

  • This course is designed for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care unit.

  • Others who need an ACLS course completion card for their job or other requirements.


Must have a current Heart & Stroke Foundation BLS course completion card – taken within the past 12 months.

Participants should have a working knowledge of:

  • Reading and interpreting electrocardiograms (ECGs)
  • Be able to identify rhythms associated with bradycardia, tachycardia, and pulseless arrest.


  • ACLS course completion card is issued by the Heart & Stroke Foundation
  • The card is valid for two years from the date of issue
  • The card is accessible by logging onto student account on Heart & Stroke Foundation

ACLS Renewal – 1 Day
The ACLS renewal course is for highly-proficient ACLS providers who regularly manage cardiovascular emergencies. This is a fast-paced course that leverages existing clinical skills and proficiency.
