Primary Care Paramedic

Career Opportunities

The scope of the Paramedic profession has grown and continues to    expand beyond its traditional duties. Know-how of latest technologies          in combination with expanded skill-set is in high demand.

The rate of growth has been steady over the last ten years in Ontario.  Population growth and a steadily ageing demographics are translating    into greater prospects for this occupation. Paramedical occupations      mainly work in the following:

According to Job bank Canada, the average salary for Primary Care Paramedic in Toronto Region is $42/hour.

What Will You Study?

Our comprehensive and hands-on emergency medical technician (paramedic) training program focuses on the essential skills required to assess and manage patients in a pre-hospital care environment.

You will learn to handle the emergency, medical, trauma and psychological situations along with patient communication, critical thinking and decision making skills training.

Program Details

You will gain in-depth knowledge in the following areas:

  • Anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and clear understanding of critical
    medical terminology required to perform primary care paramedic duties.
  • Operational, legal, ethical and psycho-social aspects of being a paramedic.
  • How to assess the extent of injuries and medical needs of individuals in trauma, stress, overdose, accidents to determine emergency medical treatment.
  • Administer pre-hospital emergency care to patients such as CPR, spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, bandaging and secure splinting.
  • How to successfully establish and maintain intravenous treatment (IV), administer medications, apply adjunctive equipment for ventilation and circulation and provide advanced emergency treatments to patients.
  • Safe patient transport and collaboration with family members and hospital staff to ensure the right treatment is  administered. Document the nature of injuries and illnesses and treatment provided.
  • Perform administrative duties and maintain ambulance and emergency care equipment and supplies.

Admission Prerequisites

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or Equivalent  OR
  • Mature Student Status (18 Years of age or older) AND
  • Must have Biology and Math – Min Grade 11 (Equivalent to ICAS or WES or MCC) AND
  • Successful Completion of Entry Assessment Test AND
  • Successful Personal Interview.

For Students who do not have Biology and Math Equivalency can opt for:

  • In house Biology course for 1 Week with exam pass mark 70%
  • In house Math course for 1 Week with exam pass mark 70%

OR

  • Pass In house exam with 70% passing mark

Additionally, students need to have following prior to the start of the program:

  • Clean criminal record and vulnerable sector screening checks
  • Immunization record as per the program requirement

English Language Requirements (Only for International Students)

  • IELTS – Minimum of 5.5 in all modules with overall 6.
